Admissions

The admission process begins by calling the House and speaking to Carole or Danese. This call may be made by a social worker, care coordinator, doctor, family member, or friend. Carole will set up an appointment to meet with the family and potential resident wherever they are - home, hospital, nursing home, etc. Potential residents and their families will be able to ask questions about the House, and bed availability will be addressed. If the potential resident is appropriate for the House and a bed is available, a bed will be offered, and arrangements can be made to move the resident to the House, usually within a few days. There is often a waiting list, but beds are offered to those with the most immediate or significant need. All services at the House of John are free and there is no expectation of donations or contributions by residents or family members. Admission is not determined by religion, age, or ethnic background.

Diagnosis of terminal illness with no expectation of recovery
A doctor's prognosis of three months or less life expectancy
Private physician coverage
No extraordinary care needs, such as IV's or feeding tubes
